This week is Celebrate Literacy Week at Sunnyside!

We are looking forward to a week full of fun and reading! This week the Book Fair will be open from Tuesday-Friday, so feel free to come and do some shopping! We also have a special guest reader on Wednesday... Dr. Flansburg will come into our class to show us his exceptional reading skills! Classrooms will also be decorating their doors like books, with voting taking place for the best doors! The week wraps up with our huge literacy night party on Thursday night from 5:30-7:00. Please bring your family! There will be dinner, games, prizes, voting for door decorating, and the Book Fair will be open! Hope you see you all there!

An Exciting Week!

This past week was an exciting one for us! We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday by studying the life cycle of an apple and we made applesauce on Friday!

We also were so happy to release our painted lady butterflies who recently had emerged. 

Next week brings more fun with picture day on Tuesday and Grandparents Day on Friday morning!

The Caterpillars are Here!

We have welcomed Painted Ladies and Monarch caterpillars into our classroom.

We will observe and record how they grow and change as part of our science unit on life cycles.

So far we have learned that they start out very tiny, the size of the head of a pin and eat a LOT!

Ask your child about the little critters daily to learn more!

What a great first week!

 

We spent lots of time learning about Respect, Responsibility, and Safety - the three pillars of expectations here at Sunnyside. We also talked a lot about kindness and how to be a good friend. We graphed our class, the ways we get to school, and our birthdays. Sharing our Me Bags helped us learn more about each other and our new teacher! Having a desk is a very fun opportunity to practice organization and we're starting to get things in place!

Week two is sure to bring lots more activities and learning!

Welcome to First Grade at Sunnyside!

I am so excited to get started on an amazing year!

 

Before school starts on Tuesday, September 5th,

please come to meet me and check out your new classroom (Room 121)!

The Meet Your Teacher event(s) are on Thursday, August 31st from 9-10 am OR 5-6 pm.

 

Early Conference Meetings are available that same day from 10 am -5 pm.

It's important to me to meet with every family so that I can hear all of the wonderful things that make your child special and unique! If you are unable to set a meeting for that day, I also have time set aside on Thursday, September 14th from 4-7pm.
